Character Design

GORKILLA 2013

I first came up with the Gorilla for Super Duper Ham: Day One, but started reworking the character concept for The Amazing Adventures of Awesome and Oops. This version is a robotic suit that the maker of the Ninjanzee wears to enter the fray and fight Fernando in his battle suit.

NINJANZEE 2013

I came up with the Ninjanzee for The Amazing Adventures of Awesome and Oops. The are ninja who are rebuilt after each defeat, first into cyborgs and then ultimately into robots. These robots wear a furry suit over their robot bodies.

FERNANDO 2013

Fernando is the parental guardian of Awesome and Oops. When the family are having adventures, he wears his action suit. But when the kids are threatened, he is quick to don his battle suit.

SPANISH SUPER RABBITS 2013

My 2013 comic Blanco y Negro introduced my two Spanish super rabbits. They will return in my comic series The Amazing Adventures of Awesome and Oops, wearing robotic suits to help them interact with the human world. The designs for suits would reflect how each rabbit wants to interact with people they come in contact with.

RED RUBBER MONKEY 2013

Red rubber fur, over red rubber skin, over red rubber muscles, over red rubber bones. Oops creates this avatar so he can upload his consciousness and go out and explore the world unsupervised, thinking that his body and mind will be safe at home. Unfortunately, the upload process is more of a transfer process and getting home ends up being a lot more complicated than he thought it would be.

OOPS 2013

I developed this character for a comics series called The Amazing Adventures of Awesome and Oops. He is Awesome’s little brother. This adolescent genius builds an exoskeleton to interact with a world designed for adults. He is also a Super Duper Ham fan.

AWESOME 2013

I developed this character for a comics series called The Amazing Adventures of Awesome and Oops. She is Oops’ older sister, who was rescued from a research facility that modified her brain, arms and hands, giving her rudimentary telekinetic abilities.

THE ION 2010

I made this drawing to show a less cartoony version of the Ion, drawing inspiration from a move poster for Superman Returns.

SUPER DUPER HAM 2010

In Super Duper Ham: Day One, Abe was still figuring out his costume. I made this drawing to show a potential evolution that would align with the look of his mentor, the Ion.

MARTIANS 2010

I let the story of Martian Debut drive the design of the Martians. I knew that I wanted them to slip and swim through the air and their primary feature would be an unusual-looking eye.

Early sketches were inspired by H.P. Lovecraft creatures. They were too gross. Too many eyes. I settled into a more geometric eye design, because it gave the Martian a mask-like face that felt alien and unreadable.  I also moved away from a tentacle-based anatomy for something that felt more etherial, with wispy tendrils that would flow around a snake-like body.
